I especially love the words he chooses as they have double and triple meanings and can be applied to so many situations. In my opinion they are must have stencils for journaling or, well, for just about anything.
I decided to work in my journal again - you've gotta know I am absolutely addicted to art journaling now! Here is the spread that I started with, a randomly painted and stenciled page.
First I selected some collage bits, things I thought I might possibly use. I tend to pull out a lot of stuff and then only use a small portion of it, but that's ok.
This page is highly personal for me, most of my pages are if I think about it. But this is the one I did the day my Mom got her diagnosis. The Big C diagnosis. By the time you read this, I will already be in Cincinnati for her surgery and aftermath - what will hopefully turn into a good recovery. My Mom is super private, so I don't want to share detail here, but your prayers or positive thoughts would be so appreciated.

It looks like I am having an out of body experience, which is pretty much how I feel.
And finally, here is the finished Journal Spread.
I used all three of the stencils in this spread, little bits here and there. I also used them again the next day and the next day. Ahem. LOVE them!! Way to go, Seth!!!

Mary Beth.. please rest assured that I will light a candle for your mom today. Healing prayers will see her through. Loving Seth's stencils and hopping along with the artists.
ReplyDeleteThese stencils are so gorgeous that I would just use a piece of dark beige watercolor paper, lay the stencil down & color with acrylic paints on a Gelli Plate. Once dry, I would then use a micron black ink pen to outline & highlight the parts of the stencil that I want to stand out (probably the words). I would then frame the pieces, probably using a black mat. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeletePrayers your way. Love your art.
ReplyDeletePrayers and Blessings for your Mom, you and your family

ReplyDeleteHi, MaryBeth. I am no stranger to cancer and a friend of mine is very ill now. While I am not private, I understand those who are. But if you want help, give a holler. There are listservs for almost every type of cancer, and places to help you and your mom (dad) and family get through this. If it hadn't been for a colon cancer listserv, my husband would have died much sooner, and I would be in the funny farm.
ReplyDeleteAs you know I'm not a journaling person, but I love yours.
Take care, Tommy

ReplyDeleteSorry! New art journal addict and blogger I am so inspired by the complexity and beauty of your journal pages. BTW I would love to win a stencil. Have a beautiful day. I hope your mother can flourish in the face of adversity.
DeletePraying for a positive outcome for your mom. Having had my own experience of cancer over two years ago now, I can say without a doubt laughter is the very best medicine. Journaling is a great gift for getting all those gnarly emotions up and out-a safe space to both create and express how we truly feel. I am enjoying your Stencil Girl book and DVD; would love Seth's fun stuff to go crazy with. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Mary
Thoughts and prayers for your mom, you, and your family. Thank you for sharing your process to your beautifully layered art. Even with the glimpses into your process it still seems like magic to me!
ReplyDeleteBest of healing for your mom. I just read your Stencil Girl book. Great job. Can't wait to try some of your ideas. Thanks for the opportunity to win such wonderful stencils.
ReplyDeleteI pray that your mom does well and that the C-word no longer applies to her from this day on. When my girlfriend was going through chemo, I joked with her a lot. The silliness lightened her day, no matter what she was going through. I hope your family’s sense of humor does the same for your mom. (We also have a twisted sense of humor!)
ReplyDeleteI’m a new fan of yours. I purchased your book, “Flavor For Mixed Media”, and have been watching your videos for the last week. I have also registered for your Art Journal Webinar on Thursday, which I am looking forward to. I truly appreciate that you are sharing so many of your techniques with other artists.
I would love to win Seth’s new stencils. I like that they are filled with so many designs. Cool!
