Wax on, Wax off Batik

Day one of the workshop at Valley Ridge consisted of making Batik papers. This is one of my favorite things, originally taught to me by Katherine Engen and then she encouraged me to take the class and run with it. Isn't that cool of her?
Well, I guess I did. I do know I have come up with some crazy ideas for printing on paper - can you say potato masher? Yeah, crazy I know.
Here is some student work. Absolutely gorgeous.

  1. Fun and interesting! I teach watercolor batik workshops, and am intrigued with the process you used. Please check out my blog [deedoyleartandsoul.blogspot.com] and click on batiks under the word labels to see what I do with batiks. It looks as if it would be fun to "mix it up," your style and mine ... Nice work!

  3. Beautiful work! The workshop sounds awesome -- I've recently started painting fabric with watered-down acrylic paints, and so I'm curious about batik. I may have to do some research.

    Thanks for the inspiration! <3

  7. MB, late in the game here, but I've been away... Do you use procion dyes on the paper? I'd really love to play with this process.
