So yesterday morning I was reading the paper and glanced at the ads in the food section. And there it was, one of our local grocers had a recipe with a picture of an elderly man proudly presenting a tray of food. The headline and name of the recipe:

"Grandpa Jim's Wiener Winks."

At which point I snorted coffee out my nose.

Good old Shop & Save, always there to provide a good snort! I cut out Grandpa Jim & am saving it in my too-tacky-but-true file!

MB -- It would only be fair to include the recipe for your readers who live outside of St. Louis...

8 oz. can refrigerated crescent rolls
14-16 oz. pkg. little smokies (cocktail weiners)
    12 oz. pkg. cheese slices

Preheat oven to 375^. Lay crescent rolls flat. Cut each roll into 3 small triangles. Cut one slice of cheese into 4 equal triangles. Wrap cheese and crescent roll around the little smokie. Place on baking sheet and bake for 11-15 minutes or until crescent rolls are golden brown.

I KNOW that some of you are going to try this for Super Bowl Sunday...

I tried my level best to find Grandpa Jim on Shop 'n' Save's site, but they don't include him in the online circular. Bummer! I've made photocopies & will distribute to all who seem in need of a good wiener wink! wink wink, nudge nudge, if ya know what ah mean...

    Hey, Beth!

The recipe I gave is the one that was in the ad, so they are the real weinies! (I just left out the reference to Shop and Save crescent rolls and Hillshire Farm little smokies. I may have to make up a batch and then make a stealth delivery to Mary Beth and John! Robin, you're not safe, either! Patti and Beth, NY and Wisconsin might be safe...
